Gregory Armond Neish, 68, of Sweet Home, OR, passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on December 8, 2021.Greg was born August 27, 1953 in Crescent City, CA. He attended Redwood Elementary School and Del Norte High School. He was known as SunnyDay to those who listened to his radio broadcast on KPLY. He served in the Del Norte Chapter Order of DeMolay, rising in ranks to Master Councilor. In 1972, Greg enlisted in the United States Navy, serving on the USS San Jose, stationed in the Philippines. Later in life, he served as a Del Norte County sheriff and a computer tech for various companies. Greg was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, both as a parent and an Assistant Scoutmaster prior to 2006. All of this paled in comparison to his true passion for fishing. There wasn’t a lake that Greg did not know about if it had fish. He had recently moved to Sweet Home, OR to be closer to Foster and Green Peter Lake, a convenient and frequent spot for him to drop a line (or several). When not found at a lake, Greg could often be found picking up treasures at a local garage sale or spending time with his children and grandchildren. Greg will be remembered for many reasons; the biggest being his willingness to help those who needed it without consideration for the time or impact on his own life.Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Tregillis and Michael Neish Sr. He is survived by his four children, Nicole Genaro (Jesse) of Hydesville, CA, Brandon Neish (Samantha) of Albany, OR, Tyler Neish (Maggie) of Portland, OR, and Megan Rothery (Matthew) of Hillsboro, OR; his five grandchildren - Emma and Sydnee Foley, Lucas and Emily Neish, Madison Rothery and soon-to-be baby Gordon Carleish; and his brother, David Erickson (Christina) of Crow, OR.A memorial will be held at Greg’s favorite fishing spot, Olallie Lake, on July 23rd, 2022. Friends are invited to join the family for a weekend of enjoying Greg’s favorite pastime in his final resting place. Further information regarding the memorial will be posted on Greg’s Facebook page.
