Willis D. (Don) Bennett was born on March 14, 1927, in Newport, Oregon, to William and Nora Bennett. He passed away on December 3, 2021, in Medford, Oregon, where he had resided at Fountain Plaza. Don’s family offers heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Fountain Plaza for their wonderful care of our father.He grew up in Oregon and joined the U.S. Navy during World War 2, serving on the U.S.S. California in the Pacific. After completing his service, he returned home and married Arlene Dodd. They were married for fifty years. Arlene preceded Don in death, losing her battle with cancer in 1997.Most of Don’s work life was spent working for Simpson Timber Company, first as a truck driver and then as a heavy-duty mechanic. Toward the end of his employment, he worked in the Fire Prevention Program for the company.Throughout his time in Klamath, he and Arlene were actively involved in the community through the church, PTA, community organizations, and their children’s activities. Don was an active member of, first the Klamath, and then later, the Crescent City, United Methodist Church.Don’s zest for life, sense of humor, homemade caramel corn, hugs, and love for, and support of, his family will be missed by all who loved him.Don is survived by his son David (Jackie) Bennett, daughter Carma O’Connor (Tom), daughter Donna Bennett Sanderson, grandchildren Nichole Bennett, Tanya Bennett, Martin Sorensen, Matthew Sorensen, Shawn Sanderson, Melanie Rodgers, ten great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife, Mineeta.Donations in Don’s name may be made to Dogs For the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, Oregon 97502, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
