Donald Campbell, a long time resident of Crescent City, passed away on August 23.He was born and lived in Los Angeles, and lived with his family in Walnut Creek, Berkeley, Laguna Beach and Rio Nido, California.Don was an original thinker who could solve any puzzle and engineer and build anything he set his mind to. He was a renaissance man, and a generous, honorable, creative and compassionate human being with a hearty voice and laugh. He loved life and his family and his friends.Don moved to Crescent City in 1980 with his mom Anna Korling, where they homesteaded on 30 acres on Low Divide Rd. Don invented water systems for the property, rebuilt the old cabin, built his pole construction house, and continually worked to create and maintain a comfortable and interesting off-the-grid lifestyle for his mom, his neighbors, and for himself.He traveled between Crescent City and Rio Nido (on the Russian River), where he also maintained a house and worked for any who needed his expertise. He had close friends in each place and will be missed deeply by many who knew and loved him.He is predeceased by his father, Ray Campbell, his mother, Anna Korling, and his nephew, Connor Oliver. He is survived by his sister, Lynn Campbell, and many Campbell cousins.Memorial donations in his name can be sent to the Crescent City chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous.He will be remembered for his ingenuity, and helpful heart.Rest in peace dear brother.
