We are the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Del Norte and we are writing this letter to raise awareness of the Smokefree Multi-unit Housing ordinance, Ordinance No. 825, which was adopted in November 2020 and will be fully effective on January 1, 2022 for the city of Crescent City.The evidence is clear on how toxic secondhand smoke is to everyone, especially our youngest community members. Secondhand smoke is harmful to children whose bodies are still developing and exposure puts kids at risk for various illnesses. It can travel throughout buildings via vents, windows, cracks in the walls and even outlets. The CDC states that cleaning the air and ventilating buildings cannot get rid of secondhand smoke. Additionally, children, low-income tenants of public housing and members of racial and ethnic minority groups are disproportionately exposed to secondhand smoke; and smoke-free housing policies have potential to reduce this exposure.We applaud the city of Crescent City and their elected officials for adopting this ordinance and we believe it will not only help our children thrive, but improve the health of our entire community. In 2019, Crescent City and Del Norte County both were graded an โFโ by the state of Tobacco Control report from the American Lung Association. The Coalition for a Tobacco Free Del Norte is proud to announce that Crescent Cityโs grade has improved to a โBโ due to the city of Crescent City and the city council putting the smoke-free multi-unit housing ordinance into effect. These types of policies are proven to curb tobacco use, decrease secondhand smoke exposure, motivate users to quit and lessen the negative health and economic burdens associated with tobacco.For free support to quit tobacco use, contact the California Smokersโ Helpline at 1-800-NoButts or visit NoButts.org.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');Sincerely,Kathleen MorenoChair of the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Del Norte googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
