State Senator Mike McGuire will host two remote meetings about the steps the state is taking to prepare for what looks to be an active fire season in California.The first remote meeting is scheduled for noon, Monday, May 17 will discuss the California Coastal Conservancy’s role in fire prevention, and the millions they’ll be funding in wildfire protection grants, which will go toward dead tree removal, vegetation control around communities, fire breaks and more.“This meeting will be important for cities, counties, special districts and non-profits about how to apply for future grants and how organizations can be successful in securing funding to help make wildlands and areas around communities more fire safe,” according to a May 11 press release.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');The second meeting will be a remote town hall at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 27, and will focus on the resources being deployed this year to protect communities from wildfires, how residents can be prepared for wildfire season. Additionally, the meeting will discuss future wildfire outlook in the region, and how climate change is affecting the season. The North Coast CalFire Chiefs, as well as the Climate and Energy Policy Institute at Stanford University will also be represented at the town hall.“There is no other region in California that has been hit as hard by wildfires over the past six years than the North Coast.We’ve hired hundreds of additional firefighters who are now on the ground (along with purchasing more fire fighting engines, helicopters, planes and bulldozers), more fire breaks have been created, millions of dead and dying trees removed and thousands of acres cleared.That said, we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us with a long, hot, dry summer on the horizon. The State of California is investing like never before in wildfire prevention and preparedness. Over $1 billion this year alone,” read the release.To attend the 12 p.m. May 17 meeting:Watch live here: http://sd02.senate.ca.gov/video or dial in to listen by phone at 1-669-900-6833 and enter the Webinar ID: 933 2586 1928.RSVP and ask a question for Town Hall presenters by clicking here.To attend the 6:30 p.m. May 27 meeting:Watch live here: https://sd02.senate.ca.gov/video or dial in to listen by phone at 1-669-900-6833 and enter the Webinar ID: 998 5730 1244.RSVP and ask a question for Town Hall presenters by clicking here. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
