Philip Lawrence Sawyer, age 73, of Sacramento passed away of a bone marrow disorder on March 5, 2021. He leaves behind his wife Sharon Graham Sawyer. He is also survived by a brother and sister, two nephews and a niece.Philip retired in 2017 after serving 34 years as Senior Office Assistant for the County of Sacramento in Health & Human Service. Philip Sawyer received the Associates of Arts degree in Political Science from Sacramento City College in 1979. Philip was a Vietnam War veteran; after that he advocated against war, including serving as a Council Member of the Peace and Freedom Party.Philip Sawyer was born at Seaside Hospital in Crescent City. He graduated from Del Norte County High School in 1965. He grew up in Hiouchi and spent many memorable summers along the Smith River. He was a summer park aid at Jedediah Smith State Park during high school. He attended Redwood Union Elementary School and Gasquet Bible Church, and he had many friends in Hiouchi, Fort Dick, Gasquet and Crescent City.Philipโs father was Clarence Rรฉal Sawyer and mother Mabel Vienna Lawrence Sawyer.
