After pleading guilty to false declaration of candidacy, former Crescent City councilman Alex Campbell has been sentenced to two years of probation, two days in jail and a $1,600 fine.Shortly after he was sworn in to the council in January, Campbell was handed an indictment by the district attorney’s office of Del Norte County. The indictment stated Campbell lied about living within city limits, a necessary prerequisite for city council members. However, Campbell eventually pled guilty to the false candidacy charge in March, at which time the perjury charges were dropped.Campbell will also be responsible for up to $10,000 of restitution to the city, for costs associated with training a new council member and others. District Attorney Katherine Micks said it has yet to be determined what that figure will be.
