We love our patrons, and today, we highlight the beautiful words of one of our long-time friends, Terah Van Dusen. Has the library helped you? If you would like to contribute to our Library Love campaign by sharing your story with us, send us a message; we would love to hear from you.Growing up in Crescent City in the ’90s, there weren't a ton of places for kids to hang out. There was McDonalds, but that could become costly. I lived in Rock Creek with my dad, and there was a gap between when I got out of school and he got out of work. I don't remember who first introduced me to the Del Norte Public Library, because I only ever remember being there alone. But as soon as I discovered it, I started going more and more. I remember reading my first entire novel seated at a table in the middle of the library. I remember sending my first e-card from a computer in the corner (there were just two public computers in the library at that time). I remember marveling at how I didn't need to ask anyone's permission to use the library, I just walked in and found a comfortable spot to read, often escaping the rain. Since then my love of libraries has continued. I regularly visit the public library where I live, near Veneta, Oregon. I write articles about library events for our local newspaper. I recently published a children's book that I wrote, and my grandmother illustrated. When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I even took the test in the public library restroom, so I could leave that day with all the informational books on pregnancy that I could find. Libraries have become my second home, and it's funny because I never really thought of how impactful they've been in my life until sitting down to write this.Terah#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');Looking for Work? The Del Norte County Library District is hiring for several positions including relief workers and library technicians.
