Janet Glady Ames, a well-loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away in Ashland, Oregon on January 7, 2021. She was 86 years of age. Janet was born in Wahpeton, North Dakota to Albert and Ella Johnson on November 29, 1934. She relocated to Crescent City, California with her husband Herbert Ames and together they raised 5 children.Janet worked at the Bob Ames Furniture Company for many years until the couple relocated to Reno, Nevada where she worked at the MGM gift shop selling memorabilia. While there she also specialized in the creation of family coats of arms. Janet loved spending time with her family and was a wonderful storyteller and family historian.Janet had a beautiful voice and got great joy from singing with several church choirs. She had a strong Christian faith which she shared with her loved ones. She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Crescent City. Janet’s great love of music was communicated to all those around her and she nurtured that passion in her children and grandchildren. She generously and graciously loved her entire family, and all those close to her. In the words of her beloved sister Mary Jean, Janet was “Always a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and an all-inclusive friend, wife, mother, grandmother. We all loved her and will miss her.”Janet is proceeded in death by her loving husband Herbert Ames and by her children Holly Ames Lake, and Douglas Ames, as well as by her sister Patricia Olson.She is survived by her sister Mary Jean Ames, her daughter Penny Nootbaar, her sons Randy and John Ames, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Janet was under the kind and supportive care of hospice while in Ashland, Oregon, and was laid to rest in the Mountain View Cemetery, also in Ashland. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
