Andre Pamplona Da Silva is officially one of the best.Da Silva, a senior at Del Norte High School, was recently named to the National Association for Music Education 2020 All-National Honor Ensembles. In doing so, Da Silva will take part in the first virtual event, creating music from locations across the nation.Da Silva will join others who made the National Honor Ensembles in several rehearsals with the 2020 ANHE conductors and workshops with renowned clinicians. Each ensemble will create a final, recorded performance that will be premiered online during the National Association for Music Educatoon’s Music In Our Schools Month in March.“Andre has worked incredibly hard over the past four years at Del Norte High School and beyond,” said Dan Sedgwick, music teacher at Del Norte High School. “He has participated in Northern California Band and Choir Director's Association honor choir, California Choral Director's Association's Regional and State honor choir, California Orchestra Directors Association Honor Ensembles, and, just recently, found out that he was accepted into the California Alliance for Jazz All-State Jazz Choir. He is the first Del Norte High Student to ever make it into the national ensembles. Current limitations to live music has not stifled his drive to push himself. He is currently waiting for college audition results as he is about to begin his next part of his musical journey! In music classes at DNHS, he is a leader and does pretty much everything he can to help, teach and foster other students in their musical journey.”The All-National Honor Ensembles performers represent collaboration and creativity in its highest musical form. The All-National Honor Ensembles consist of a concert band, symphony orchestra, mixed choir, jazz ensemble, guitar ensemble, and modern band (now in its second year). Students were chosen through an audition process. The concert band and symphony orchestra will each have 120 instrumentalists each, the jazz ensemble 13 instrumentalists, the mixed choir 241 vocalists, the guitar ensemble 45 instrumentalists and the modern band 13 performers.Selected students will be rehearsing a challenging repertoire in preparation for performing under the direction of six of the most prominent conductors in the United States: Frances Fonza (Mixed Choir); Nobuyoshi Yasuda (Symphony Orchestra); Rodney Dorsey (Concert Band); Todd Stoll with Terell Stafford (Jazz Ensemble); Chuck Hulihan (Guitar Ensemble); and Tony Sauza (Modern Band).
