Crescent City said farewell and thank to two members of the city council in an emotional send-off Monday.During their final council meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Heidi Kime and Councilman Alex Fallman heard a lot of thank yous and had one final chance to address their colleagues and the community as a councilmember.City Manager Eric Wier said the two council members made a difference in their four years of service.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');“We do have an opportunity to celebrate two really good council members,” Wier said. “A lot of people don’t realize the effort that goes into being a city council person. It’s not just the meetings we’re in tonight, there’s boards and commission and there’s all the after-hours events.”Wier said the two were part of a council that oversaw a lot of changes in the city. During their terms, the council hired Wier as city manager and the city hired a new police chief, fire chief, public works director, human resources director and city clerk while creating the recreation department and hiring a director.Wier turned to Fallman, saying the councilman was the youngest member of the council ever elected. When he was elected in 2016, he was just 20 years old.“Mr. Fallman, you started young, but 20 wasn’t the starting point for you,” Wier said. “As I understand, you were a police explorer long before that and wanted to be part of this city and make a difference long before that.”Kime, who runs her own business and volunteered in different capacities before being elected, was also noted.“Miss Kime was a huge, huge supporter of this community,” Wier said. “She came here and wanted to make a difference. That’s what I can say about Heidi. As soon as she was elected on the council, she was knocking on my office door saying how we can do better.”Members of the council also had a chance to say thank you.“Alex, Heidi, I really appreciate both of you,” Mayor Jason Greenough said. “You have brought your experience, you’ve brought your love for this community onto this council and I really appreciate both of you. We haven’t always agreed on everything, but we found ways to compromise.”Former Mayor Blake Inscore was also thankful to the outgoing council members.“Alex and Heidi, I think you both know how much I appreciate both of you,” Inscore said. “We would not have been able to do the things we got done if you weren’t a part of it. Thank you for what you brought to the table.”Kime said she will miss working with her colleagues and city staff.“I really have enjoyed this,” she said. “It’s a lot of work. People don’t have a clue. It’s bittersweet. I would have loved to continue on the council, but for personal reasons I had to go. But I won’t be gone. I’m in this community.”Fallman said the voters who gave their support to a 20-year-old is something special.“The people of Crescent City took a chance investing in a young person,” he said. “Electing someone as young as me was, quite frankly, a risk. I acknowledge that. I’m so grateful to this community for believing in me enough to see me lead. It’s really one of the great privileges I’ve ever known.”Kime and Fallman were both elected in 2016 and decided not to run for re-election in 2020. They were replaced on the council by Alex Campbell and Beau Smith. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
