John Osborne Woolworth, 80, of Smith River, passed away on April 3, 2020 in Crescent City. He was a longtime resident of Smith River. John was born on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 1939 in Del Norte County to parents, Frederick Osborne “Ozzie” and Wilma L. Woolworth of Smith River. John was the husband River and were married for 53 years. John attended Smith River Elementary School and graduated in 1957 from Del Norte discharged. He began his career with the Del Norte County Road Department in the Spring of 1965. He worked for Del Norte County for over 36 years and retired as a Road Foreman in December 2001. He utilized his military training, working as a Volunteer Fireman with the Smith River Fire Department, for many years. He was awarded “Fireman of the Year” in 1975. John was an accomplished woodworker, making a variety of wood projects since he was knowledge and experience in woodworking. He made countless picnic tables and bird houses for his friends and family. For many years, he donated time and material, making picnic tables and - weeks before his birth, his mother Wilma, caught a 65-pound salmon. It was more than just John was survived by his wife, Parma K. Woolworth. He is survived by his sister Sally Daniels (Duane), brother in-law Gary Rudisill (Pat), nieces and nephews; John Daniels (Lori), Robyn Rudisill, Joey Rudisill and Ronni Foley. He is also survived by numerous cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his parents, Frederick O. and Wilma L. Woolworth and brother in-law Ronald Rudisill. John’s wish was to be cremated, buried in the Smith River Cemetery, without any services.Wier's Mortuary Chapel conducted the official burial.
