John was born in Squaw Valley on May 27, 1932 to Tony and Lena Rath. He grew up with his brother Carl and attended 12 year of school in Gold Beach. He graduated Gold Beach High School in 1950.He then joined the Army and served 3 years. After returning home from the Army he worked at Hunter Creek Mill. He then drove a log truck for Jess Stansell for about 3 years. He then met and married Virginia Christian in 1959 who had two children, Sandi and Terry Christian. They later purchased a home in Hunter Creek where they lived and raised their family. John purchased his first log truck in 1963. He was an enthusiastic hunter and marksman and enjoyed gun repair and trading. John and his family enjoyed many camping, hunting and fishing trips through the years. John and Virginia left their Hunter Creek home and moved into town in 1992.John retired and sold his log in 1998. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed gardening for the remainder of his life.John was a wonderful husband, father, step-father, grandpa and great grandpa.He is survived by his loving wife Virginia of 61 years along with Son Duane Rath (wife Lyndell), Roxan Zuber (husband David), Sandi Haft, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.John left us on August 29, 2020 peacefully with his family by his side.
