David (Dave) Earl Scott, a long-time resident of Brookings, Oregon passed away on August 28, 2020 at the age of 76.Dave was born on November 11th, 1943 in Webb City, Missouri. He was the only child of David and Doris Scott. During his childhood, his family moved west from Missouri to Silverton, Oregon, and he spent the remainder of his youth there. He attended Oregon State University – graduating from the School of Forestry in 1965. Dave was immediately hired by Crown Zellerbach in Washington state where he worked until he was drafted to the Army in February 1966.Dave returned to Crown Zellerbach in 1968 to start what would be a successful and fulfilling career. After two years, he was promoted to Division Planning Engineer for the company, and he was relocated to the company’s headquarters in Portland, Oregon. Dave continued to see promotion after promotion, and in 1977 he became the Vice President and General Manager of Rellim and Miller operations. Dave served on the Board of Directors of the parent company for seven years and was the youngest board member in the company’s history.In 1987 Dave left the lumber business and built Oceanview Storage in Harbor, Oregon. In addition, he helped develop an Easter Lily farm with his wife, Susanne Freeman. Together they built a thriving business and raised their two sons – Ryan and Alan. Dave continued to explore new opportunities at every turn including: Consulting in Chile for wood products, working as the Brookings – Harbor port commissioner, and managing Oceanview Storage. He continued to manage Oceanview Storage until his death.During his later years in life, he truly enjoyed finding new business opportunities with his best friend and partner, Becky. These opportunities included gold buying, wasabi farming, and land development. He often commented that these were the best six years of his life.Dave was an avid ocean kayak fisherman. A sport he did not start until he was 62 years old. Dave continued to Kayak fish until he was 75.He is survived by his loving partner: Becky Crockett, his four children: Kristi, Tammy, Ryan, and Alan and his two grandchildren.He will be remembered by his larger-then-life stories, his contagious laugh, and bright smile. Dave had wonderful memories of Brookings, its people, and the beautiful scenic area. He made a lasting impact on the community and always referred to Brookings as the best place in the world to live.A celebratory gathering will be held on Saturday September 5th from 1:00- 4:00pm at the Crockett/ Tidewater Gravel Bar in Smith River.
