Details below.Del Norte reported four positive cases, bringing the total confirmed cases to 104 with one person still hospitalized. Details below.Pelican Bay's numbers did not change: The California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation is still reporting zero inmate cases, 26 staff cases (24 from mandatory testing in July and two from May) with all but 18 staff returned to work. Details below.Curry CountyYesterday evening, Aug. 11, Curry County Public Health reported receiving notification from Curry General Hospital of a confirmed case of COVID-19. This recent case is a non-resident and was identified to be a close, prolonged, workplace contact of a positive case that was reported on Aug. 6. This additional case and his wife are self-isolating and monitoring symptoms at their home outside of Curry County.Public Health Administrator Sherrié R. Ward said this case has been reported back to the individual's state of residency and will not be reflected in Curry County’s overall active count."Please remember, it is important that we all follow the OHA and CDC guidelines and Governor’s directives about social distancing, wearing facial coverings in public buildings and protecting yourselves by staying home to slow the spread and save lives," Ward said.According to Curry County Public Health, the county has had 17 reported positive cases with 14 recovered and three active. There have been no hospitalizations or deaths.It has been difficult for The Pilot to follow or interpret Curry County's data because there has been no clarification of how the county is tabulating testing. For instance, a baby who tested positive was counted as positive and recovered even though subsequent tests showed the baby was not positive. And Curry County residents who work at Pelican Bay State Prison and tested positive there were removed from Del Norte's count when reported to Curry County, but they don't appear to be added to Curry's numbers — although Ward is reporting that she is removing out-of-state residents who test positive in Curry from the county's numbers when they are reported back to their home state.Still, the numbers are relatively small.Another way to look at COVID-19 in Curry County is offered by this dashboard displaying Oregon Health Authority data (although it may lag behind county reports). The dashboard shows percentages, not raw numbers. This morning, for instance, Curry's case count was showing as 62.5 per 100,000 population (just a way of showing data, since the county has under 23,000 people, so the actual number would be about less than a fourth of that). Comparatively, Josephine County has 132.6 cases per 100,000 people, Coos County 143.8 and the state leader (a dubious distinction in this case), Morrow County with 2,933.1 cases per 100,000 population.The same dashboard shows that 73% of Curry's cases have recovered and that only 1% of tests have been positive (compared to 2% in Coos and a whopping 22% in Morrow County.Curry County updates its data on Facebook from time to time and also reports basic information HERE.Del Norte CountyThere were four (4) positive cases reported to Public Health yesterday. The first case was a household contact to a known case. The second case was reported late to Public Health, after the isolation period would have been complete. The third case was a contact to a positive case in another jurisdiction. The fourth case is still under investigation. If employees live outside Del Norte County, the health department passes that information on to the county of residence.So far, no inmates at the prison have tested positive.
