Del Norte reports five more positive cases from Pelican Bay staff testing

Del Norte County Public Health has updated the confirmed COVID-19 cases from yesterday with a report at 6:39 p.m. There were five new confirmed cases reported today, with no hospitalizations. This brings Del Norte's total confirmed cases to 84, of which 62 are no longer considered active.According to the report, the county continues to receive reports of new confirmed cases from Pelican Bay State Prison staff."All of the positives reported today are related to PBSP and all positive cases are self-isolating at home," the public health release stated. Late this afternoon SherriΓ© R. Ward, Public Health Administrator of Curry County Public Health said she is working with Del Norte County Public Health, Curry County Emergency Management, Del Norte Office of Emergency Services, and the Pelican Bay Incident Command team to investigate and contact trace those individuals identified through testing conducted last week at Pelican Bay State Prison. She did not disclose the number of prison-related cases in Curry County."As cases are confirmed, we will continue to provide updated numbers," she said.In Del Norte, the public health department said this afternoon that nearly all of the new cases from PBSP staff are asymptomatic."With this in mind, we continue to urge our residents to be diligent in preventing the spread of this virus through proper hand hygiene, proper social distancing, and wearing face coverings in public."The latest data from Del Norte showed that the new cases have changed the Mean Age of positive cases, which was 32 but is now 35. Gender was 50-50 men and women a week ago but now is 57% men and 43% women.
