Our 6 p.m. report continues, with the latest data we could round up for July 20, 2020. Our last report was Friday, July 17, as we did not provide a report over the weekend.New! Percentages (corrected*)Readers have asked for percentages as a way of interpreting the data. It is difficult to have exact percentages, in part because we don’t have access to the very latest population numbers. Also, some people are tested multiple times (such as health care professionals). However, this rough data is interesting:#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');As of reports available to us on July 20:National - 14.81% of population tested; 9.26% of tests positive; 3.11% of people with positive tests died.California - 15.98% of population tested; 6.10% of tests positive; 1.97% of people with positive tests died.Oregon - 8.04% of population tested; 4.38% of tests positive; 1.76% of people with positive tests diedDel Norte County - 11.26% of population tested; 2.11% of tests positive; no deathsCurry County - 3.68% of population tested; 1.19% of tests positive; no deaths*The data originally published with this report inadvertently mis-stated percentages. Public Health reached out to one of the individuals and learned that the person has not been in close contact with anyone for an extended period of time other than his spouse. Contact tracing has been initiated in this case and at this point the individual has been instructed to self-isolate and monitor his symptoms. The public health department said the second individual who tested positive is from Southern California and has been visiting and staying with family in Crescent City, California. The individual was able to get tested at Curry Medical Center in Brookings. This individual was referred back to California for further contact tracing. This report brought Curry County totals to a total of ten cases including three active positive cases as of July 19. A total of 843 tests are reported to have taken place, of which 834 were negative. There have been no COVID-19 related deaths or hospitalizations reported in Curry County. It appears that Curry County is making an update each Friday, unless there are new cases to report. More information is available HERE: https://currypublichealth.com/homeDEL NORTEAlso on July 18, there were four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Del Norte county. According to the public health department, three of these cases are active, related to a private gathering, and are close contacts of a positive case. Contact tracing was completed and close contacts have been placed in quarantine and recommended to test. One of the cases is inactive due to the delay in reporting. This new case had already completed isolation and recovered. This case was also a contact to a positive case and had been previously placed on quarantine. Another case was also reported on July 18 in a resident outside Del Norte County. The case was transferred to the appropriate jurisdiction, and not reflected in the updated positive numbers. The virus is not contained by city, county or state boundaries.
