An additional 89 tests for COVID-19 were processed since July 4 in Del Norte County without any new confirmed cases of the virus, the Del Norte County Public Health Branch reported just before 2:30 p.m. on July 7.Elsewhere in California, except in the northern-most counties, cases continue to surge. Information updated at 11 a.m. today, with data from July 6, showed that California now has 277,774 confirmed cases of COVID-19, resulting in 6,448 deaths.The number of COVID-related deaths increased by 1.8 percent from Sunday’s total of 6,337. The rate of positive tests in Del Norte over the past 14 days is 2.8%.California’s hospitalizations due to COVID-19 increased by 199 from Sunday. Del Norte has had only two cases requiring hospitalization and one of the two patients remains hospitalized.Although many restrictions had been relaxed as part of California's "Resilience Roadmap" — which locally has allowed dine-in restaurants, hair salons and barbershops, gyms and fitness centers, hotels and campgrounds and other business sectors to reopen — the surge has resulted in the state monitoring counties and imposing shutdowns in some cases.Del Norte and many other Northern California counties are not on the state's county monitoring list at this time.
