Robley L Schwenk was born August 2, 1936 to loving parents Louis H Hodge- Schwenk and Robley Darrel Schwenk. He passed away on March 18, 2020.Robley grew up in Requa, California. From a young age he vowed he would never leave. Robley became an Army soldier. Later he returned home to study at Humboldt State then onto UC Davis. He worked with the Indian Child Welfare Act, Requa Indian Community Action Agency, the Yurok Interim Council, the Yurok Transition Team and as well as the Klamath Community Highschool. Robley lobbied hard for native rights at the federal level. He was dedicated to his people and worked relentlessly to make sure the Yurok Tribe became recognized and respected.Robley was a kind hearted man who would give you the shirt off his back if need be. He always helped people in need and never had a negative thing to say about anyone. He will be greatly missed and remembered for his great ways.Robley leaves behind his sister Charlotte Bernier. Eric Schwenk, Tanepai-wik Schwenk-Van Pelt (Dwight), Eduah Pete Schwenk (Cammie) Londa Williams (Phillip). Nieces Charlene LaBrasca, Montese (Jim), Lillian Torres, Evita, Effie. Nephews Howard Duckey, Darrell Duckey (Shannon), Dale Bernier (Lori), Juan Romero Jr., (Emily), Eric Robley II, Rebecca, Mistche’na:nya (Zack), Tsemetadin, Dwight M., Verdina Ruby, Naomi (Natia), Caprice, Thomas Williams (Shante’), Leona Schwenk. Best friend Walt Lara, Sr. first cousin Larry Hendrix and many that were dear to his heart.A celebration of life will be held at the Yurok Tribal Office in the near future.
