At the March 16 Crescent City meeting of the City Council, Mayor Blake Inscore brought forth an official proclamation in support of Vietnam War Veterans Day March 29. Inscore then presented the proclamation to Liz Freeman, Regent of the local Del Norte Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The Del Norte Chapter was instrumental in getting the proclamation for the Vietnam War Veterans Day to become a reality.“Del Norte Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution felt we needed to urge the local governing bodies to publicly proclaim March 29 as Vietnam War Veterans Day, in order to raise the public awareness of this very special day,” Freeman said. “The Del Norte Daughters are thrilled that the City Council has led the way in this valiant proclamation, by bringing recognition and honor to our Vietnam veterans who often were not well treated when they came home. We thank Mayor Inscore and the Crescent City City Council for being true leaders and patriots and bringing forth this proclamation for Vietnam War Veterans Day.”The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act, signed into law by President Trump on March 28, 2017, proclaims March 29 of each year as Vietnam War Veterans Day, marking it a day to fly the flag, to remember and honor those who served in the military during the years of the Vietnam War Conflict and to welcome them home with gratitude and praise.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');Freeman said the Del Norte Chapter of NSDAR is a staunch supporter of the military and assists locally with the Del Norte County Service Officer and the sponsored veterans’ activities. DAR assists with planting and removal of the flags for Memorial Day. DAR also sells sponsorships for Wreaths Across America, whose goal is a wreath on every veterans’ grave, especially at the National Cemeteries. Throughout the year, Del Norte DAR donates supplies and food to the local site on H Street; awards Vietnam War Commemorative Pins to Vietnam vets; participates in Veterans Day parade & activities; and often do special events such as Vice Regent Cori Higgins’ presentation at Veterans Day public luncheon, on the events of D-Day 75th anniversary in Normandy, which Cori and her family personally attended. Higgins also showed the same presentation to the Gasquet VFW. Del Norte Chapter member, Pauline Cramer, is a National Society DAR appointee to the Veterans Administration Voluntary Service Committee and is assigned to the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Wendy Malone, a California State DAR officer and a member of Del Norte Chapter, is Chairman of the local Service to Veterans Committee, working with the Del Norte County Service Officer.“The DAR motto is ‘God, home and country’ which includes our devotion and care of the military in Del Norte County and beyond,” Freeman said. “I hope everyone will fly the flag on Sunday, March 29 and greet and thank our Vietnam War Veterans for their service. Inside the Veterans Memorial Hall on H Street is the display donated by Del Norte Chapter DAR, with pictures of our young Del Norte men who fell in battle on the fields of Vietnam. Let us never forget what these and thousands of others have given for us. The least we can do is to remember and honor them by proudly flying the flag every year on March 29.” googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
