Even though social distancing guidelines are keeping many people home during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pacific Pantry continues to provide essential groceries for those in need.Pacific Pantry, located at 494 Pacific Ave., in Crescent City, has returned to its “choice pantry” model for April, according to Food Coordinator Adrea Lanctot. She said the Pantry offered the last week of March a “grab-and-go” operation. But Lanctot said that resulted in too many community members lining up outside at once and was depleting resources inside.“Clients will be expected to show an ID and sign in and households are only allowed to access emergency food once a month,” Lanctot explained. “If you are picking up food for someone else, please bring a signed note and ID. If you have never received food from the pantry, we can get you signed up in the system, all you need is an ID.”#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');To help fill these orders, Lanctot is seeking healthy volunteers, preferably those who have not traveled outside the area, to work two- to three-hour shifts. Volunteers will also help prepare items like egg cartons and sliced cheese.To sign up for a shift, go to https://bit.ly/2UE3iN2.Normal hours are from 2-6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.Patrons will be handed a list of available items in the pantry and asked to check the wanted items. The number of items allowed is based on household size, Lanctot said. Staff will then pack the bag to take home.Lanctot said the Food Pantry feeds up to 600 households a month. She said after a block grant from Crescent City ran out last year, the Food Council was able to fundraise $30,000 over the winter to continue operations. Also, she said they received donations from The Elk Valley Rancheria and Caldwell Foundation.For more information, email Lanctot at alanctot@frcredwoods.org. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
