Del Norte County Tax Collector Barbara M. Lopez reminds taxpayers that the second installment of 2019-20 property taxes is still due and will become delinquent if not paid by April 10. The tax collector has no legal authority to extend the due date. But, for those who are directly impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and who are unable to pay timely, a penalty waiver process after April 10 may be available to you. Lopez encourages everyone who can pay taxes to do so. Property tax dollars directly support essential services such as schools, emergency response and public health. The Tax Collector’s Office will be open to the public on Thursday, April 9 and Friday, April 10 to assist taxpayers with their payments. The entrance and exit to the tax collector’s office will be clearly marked and social distancing will be in effect, which may result in longer wait times.
