The Del Norte Senior Center is suspending all social activities for the rest of the month and making some changes to its dining program based on recommendations from state health officials.The center’s Board of Directors met Friday afternoon and released the following to The Triplicate:Because we work with the highest-risk population and based on social distancing guidance from the state and local health departments, we will be making the changes listed below. All changes start Monday, March 16 and will be in effect through the end of March. This is because we cannot guarantee that participants will be able to keep the recommended social distance during activities that would normally be designed to increase social connectedness.• We are moving our onsite dining program to a “take-out” model. We will be encouraging as many participants as possible to come to the Senior Center and pick up a packaged meal to go. For those who have significant transportation challenges, we will be working to either place them on our home-delivered meals program or allow very limited on-site consumption of a meal.• We will continue to operate our home-delivered meal program. We will be taking extra precautions to maximize the safety of these clients.• We will continue to offer utility assistance services to all income-qualifying households. Applications can be obtained online (www.delnorteseniorcenter.org) and at the senior center. We may suspend in-person eligibility interviews to meet social distancing guidelines. We will still process applications as long as we are given all of the documentation necessary to establish eligibility.• Our low-income household weatherization program was already on hold for other reasons. We are waiting for guidance from the state on how to resume these services safely.These changes are in response to conditions as they exist right now.
