Northcoast Ocean Sports and Grill, a seafood restaurant, bar and surf shop next to Crescent City’s South Beach, closed its doors permanently on Feb. 25.The business, located on 110 Anchor Way, next to where sea lions frequently sun ashore, served up seafood specials, beer and ice cream, along with surfing rentals.During its five years in business, Northcoast Ocean Sports and Grill held surfing lessons and served both residents and tourists, including actor Hugh Jackman when he made his way up the coast while on vacation#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');However, the business was not making enough money, according to one of the partners, Lori Cowan. She, her husband, Ken, and two other partners wanted to pursue other opportunities.The Cowans were partners with a couple who live out of state and own the lease to the building.According to Lori Cowan, she and her husband did not want to close so soon. They had hoped to give the employees plenty of notice and have a community celebration before shuttering the business.“(We) made the decision to close, had a date to close, and hoped to have a last hoorah,” Lori Cowan said. “Unfortunately, one of the other partners decided they just wanted to shut it down, unbeknownst to us or the employees.”Because of this, the Cowans informed the employees of the closure on their last day of business Feb. 25.“(We’re) bummed. We were all trying to go out in a great way, on a good note,” Lori Cowan said. “It was a sad thing for them (the employees). We feel bad… so hard to do something like that to them again it wasn’t our decision.”Lori Cowan said the other couple still has the lease, and she believes they will bring another business to the location. She also thanked the community for their support in the last five years.The out-of-state partners did not reply to requests for comment before The Triplicate’s deadline. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
