The Del Norte Unified School District Board of Trustees is hosting two special meetings to interview candidates for the vacated seat left by Roger Daley’s resignation Jan. 6 to move to Reno, Nevada.As of Feb. 13, the board received five completed applications for the Area 4 seat. The five confirmed candidates are Joey Borges, Judith Cordts, Charlaine Mazzei, Mike Mealue and (Albert) George Olson.Cordts has previous experience on the Board of Trustees as Daley’s predecessor and served until 2016. Mazzei ran for the District 4 seat in 2016 against Daley and Cordts.Mealeu is a retired teacher and former president of the Del Norte Teachers Association. Both meetings will be at the Educational Resource Center, located at 400 Harding Ave., Crescent City.During the meeting, interviews will be held in open session, and the public will have 20 minutes after each interview to provide spoken or written comment on each candidate’s interview. Written comments will also be taken until 4 p.m. Feb. 25.Written comments may be hand submitted to Linda Prouty at the District Office, 301 West Washington Blvd., or emailed to lprouty@delnorte.k12.ca.us. All written comments will be attached to the agenda for the Feb. 27 meeting of the Board of Trustees, at which time the board will deliberate and vote, in open session, on the appointee for Area 4.
