Maria Luisa Fontenot died peacefully on January 27, 2020. She was born in Mexico and moved to Smith River with her daughter in 1959. Maria soon married Jocko Fontenot and they had 3 sons. She became one of the many faces of the Smith River community and lived there for the rest of her life. Maria always had her door open to everyone. She loved her faith and was a lifelong member of the Faith Christian Center.She loved to garden, loved her plants and flowers, was always giving everyone a cutting of this and a bulb of that. Maria also loved going to garage sales. She would always buy more than she needed because she was always thinking of the needs of others. Be it clothes for winter, dishes for a new household, toys or blankets for a new baby.We always knew that Mom/Grandma had our back and we will always miss her, but she’s an angel now, watching over us.Surviving are her daughter Hilda Yepes Contreras, husband Tony Contreras, sons: Jocko Fontenot, Oscar Fontenot, wife Elida, Felix Fontenot Sr. seven grandchildren, Anthony Contreras, Thomas Contreras, wife Minerva, Vanessa Contreras, Christina Contrreas, Felix Fontenot Jr., fiancée, Katie Pearson, Joshua Fontenot, wife Courtney Fontenot. 10 Great Grandchildren: Ariana Castro, Zion Maraganis, Kingston Maraganis, Malakai Maraganis, Marco Contreras, Romelo Contreras, Cielo Contreras, Keston Fontenot, Sawyer Fontenot, Ezra Fontenot, 3 sisters Chuy Atrian, Elena Atrian, Adriana Atrian and numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday February 1st at the Faith Christian Center in Smith River with Pastor Bret Wells officiating.
