The Point-in-Time Count (PIT) is happening today, Tuesday, Jan 28, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hall on 810 H St., Crescent City.The Department of Health and Human Services, along with volunteers and other community stakeholders coordinated the PIT in which they conduct anonymous surveys of the county’s sheltered and unsheltered homeless population.In collecting basic information, they are able to identify and understand homeless needs in the county, as well as strengths and gaps in the current homeless assistance system.The PIT is nation-wide event authorized by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Continuum of Care entities that takes place once a year, usually in January.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');A small meal will be provided, along with a “share table” with free clothing items and other essentials. Foot and items are limited and will be given on a “first come, first serve” basis.County DHHS staff are also seeking donations, throughout the day of the count, of non-perishable and non-monetary items for the share table. Last year’s survey participants received gently-used clothing such as socks, in addition to camping gear, backpacks, blankets, dry pet food and tarps. DHHS will donate leftover items after the survey to an organization that gives them to those in need. Drop off donations at the Veterans Hall.For more information, contact the Department of Health and Human Services at (707) 464-3191, Rebecca Green, ext. 2611 or Misty Malloroy, ext. 2621. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
