By Samuel Strait β Reporter at Large β October 15, 2022 Most impressive is all I can say. Music in the Redwood had its second stellar performance by pianist Pauline Yang, who for nearly two hours kept a near packed house on the edge of their seats listening to a broad array of classical favorites. Bach, Scarlatti, Mendelssohn, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff kept the audience's attention until intermission where Granados, Schumann, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, and Bolcom rounded out the evening. Once again I cannot claim to have any sort of expertise when it comes to Classical Music, but I can tell when the artist has her entire soul into her performance. Fingers dancing across the keyboard of a grand piano in a dazzling fashion, her whole persona invested in the music. It was truly a display of musical excellence. Miss Yang has had a world wide stellar career beginning at the age of five. Winning her first international competition at age seven. Her career has taken her around the globe performing in many of the storied capitals of music. A teacher, a diplomat, as well as a performer, Crescent City's music lovers gave her several standing ovations during the course of her performance. We were indeed fortunate to have her grace the stage in the newly appointed auditorium at Crescent Elk. A dazzling event attended by young and old alike, all leaving the hall spectacularly entertained. Miss Yang cemented her status as a world class figure offering to autograph many of the programs detailing her triumphant performance. The youth from the high school marching band crowded around her following her performance, poised and gracious as ever, she showed her skills as a diplomat as well. It is not often that performers of her skill and talent come to our humble community to display talents worthy of the grandest stages of the world. I stand in awe of her, a superb command of the piano and her audience. Thanks go out to Miss Yang and the Del Norte-Curry Community Concert Association for this superlative contribution to this community. Keep in mind that two future performances will be offered in the Spring of 2023. On Friday, March 17th at 7:00 pm will be a brass quintet featuring Seraph Brass, followed by a Friday, May 5th performance also at 7:00 pm by the Balfour String Quartet. Both performances will be staged in the Crescent Elk Auditorium and brought to you free of admission by the Del Norte-Curry Community Concert Association. Please come out and show your support for this fine organization and the tremendous talent on display, most recently Miss Pauline Yang.
