Harold “Pete” Gardner, age 78 of Smith River, CA passed away on Friday December 13th, 2019. A lifelong resident of Del Norte County, he was born May 8, 1941 in Crescent City, California.Pete had been sick with COPD for quite a while. In the last two weeks he became weaker and a little confused so we stayed with him 24 hours a day to keep him safe and comfortable. If Pete asked for pie we ran out to get apple, peach, and chocolate pie. When we gave him the options he said, “what about lemon meringue”, we would all laugh. He had a great sense of humor and was so grateful for the simple things.Pete had the best passing anyone could ask for. He was talking and joking with family members, then he was gone. No warning, No suffering. If anyone deserved an exit like that it was Pete.During his last few weeks all he talked about was wanting to go fishing for steelhead. When we think of him now, we see him fishing.Please join us in a remembrance celebration on Saturday January 4th, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Howonquet Hall Community Center, 101 Indian Court, Smith River, CA.Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.Please sign the family’s online guest book at wiersmortuary.com To plant a tree in memory of Harold Gardner as a living tribute, please visit Tribute Store. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
