The Del Norte Recreational Gymnasium at 1005 H St. in Crescent City will be closed through mid-November for floor maintenance. “We want to be able to increase the stability of the gym for more people in the community. We’ll be releasing some information on that coming soon,” said Kelsey Bozeman, the county’s recreation program coordinator. The gymnasium’s hardwood floors have not been repaired since the late 1980s. Consequently, the floors have become scratched and slippery, posing possible safety concerns. #placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');In an effort to maintain indoor play and meeting spaces during the rainy season, Bozeman decided to temporarily close the gym for the floor work. “It is a highly used space during the rainy season. We don’t really have a lot of indoor spaces for private parties,” she said. The floor will be refinished, sanded and have new lines painted for games. They will also be adding lines for a pickleball court. “The community responded really well. I think they are really excited to see the floor get redone,” Bozeman said. Additionally, Allen Winogradov, director of building, maintenance and parks, has been leading a crew in beautifying the gym with new paint. Currently, the recreation department is in contract negotiations for the gym floor repairs, although the project is set to commence soon. Bozeman estimated the gym will reopen in mid-November. She said she wanted to finish the work before the more than 700 youth began their participation in winter sports programs. Until the project is completed, the recreation department will not be taking any private gymnasium rental applications. Additionally, after the improvements to the hardwood floor, the recreation department will no longer allow skating of any kind. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
