Father, Grandfather, Brother and overall positive contributor to the community, Jerry Ray Jared passed away peacefully on 9/22/2019. Jerry was born on 9/1/1938 to James and Marguerite Jared. He attended and graduated from La Puente High School in San Gabriel Valley. At age 19, Jerry joined the Army and traveled to many countries. Jerry loved his country and felt very fortunate and honored to have served in the military. His most beloved experience in the Army was the time he spent as an Intelligence Officer on Herzo Base in Germany. Jerry was honorably discharged in 1960. After the Army, he spent 33 years working at the Southern California Gas Company. He also helped open a Boys and Girls Club in his local area, and coached basketball. Jerry retired early to move closer to his family in Eureka, California. He then moved to Smith River where he spent most of his time with his family. He loved picking up his grandchildren from school and takin them to ice cream! He enjoyed building muscle cars, and raising money for local causes. Jerry spent a great deal of time with his friend Larry Retzloff as well. Together, they helped raise money for Smith River School to build a new gym. He donated many instruments to the music program at Smith River School thanks to his second career at Del Norte Pawn Shop which he enjoyed very much. Jerry also enjoyed working on guns and guitars, frequently helping those close to him with a shared passion for he two, as was his nature. Jerry was a caring, warm, welcoming individual that especially loved the simple things he got to do every day, like walking his dog Buddy or having a conversation with a passing neighbor. He was smart, sociable, and intelligent. He was always looking to make friends wherever he went and whatever he did.
