Shirley Annette Melvin died August 3, 2019 in Crescent City, CA . She was 82.Shirley was born on October 2, 1936 in Rainy River, Ontario Canada to Gladys (née Pollard) Perkins Weston and George Perkins. Shirley and Raymond “Tuffy” Melvin wed in in Crescent City in February 1956, and were very happily married for 63 years. They resided in Klamath until 1978, and have lived in Crescent City since that time.Shirley was an extraordinarily kind, generous person and a loving wife, mother, sibling, aunt and friend. She had an aptitude for detecting, especially in children and animals, any sort of distress or need and was always quick to offer encouragement or aid. She adored books and was a voracious life-long reader, passing her love of reading to her children. She also loved to bowl with friends and for many decades enjoyed participating in local bowling leagues.Shirley is survived by her husband Tuffy of Crescent City; her daughter Janet Melvin of Eureka CA; her daughter Ginny Gromer, and son-in-law Rich Gromer, of Roseburg OR; her granddaughter Emma Cummings of San Francisco CA; her grandson Seth Cummings of Eureka CA; her sister Sharon Cuthbertson of Ogden UT; her brother Gary Weston (& Lark) of Crescent City, her brother Gene Weston (& Jackie) of Reno NV; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Diane Cummings and her brother Wayne Weston.Shirley was cremated, and her ashes will be buried at the Hancorne Family Cemetery in the Bald Hills of northern Humboldt County. A memorial celebration will take place on September 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Klamath Community Center.
