By Linda Sutter, Investigative Reporter – April 21, 2025 Concerns have arisen regarding the hiring practices at Bayside RV Park following the arrest of Marino Alexander Caldera, on April 7, 2025, the park's newly appointed camp host. Caldera, who had been residing at the park for approximately two months, was reportedly hired to clean facilities in exchange for his monthly rent. On April 21, eyewitnesses observed Del Norte Sheriff’s officers conducting what appeared to be a search of the premises. Caldera himself was not present during the search. ( he is already housed in DNSO COUNTY JAIL) Research into the Del Norte Sheriff’s Office inmate log revealed that Caldera was arrested on charges including three felonies, two of which are particularly alarming: rape by force and violation of parole community placement. While the principle of "innocent until proven guilty" applies, the nature of these allegations has raised questions about the vetting process for employees at the RV park. The situation took another turn when, following Caldera’s arrest, the Harbor hired a new employee—a woman who openly disclosed that she had recently completed a 15-month prison sentence for assaulting a peace officer. While she has served her time and appears to be making a fresh start, her hiring has further fueled concerns about the lack of background checks in the park’s employment practices. The Harbor Master’s approach to hiring individuals without thorough vetting has sparked debate among residents and visitors. As the community grapples with these revelations, many are calling for stricter measures to ensure the safety and integrity of the RV park.
