It soon will be Coastal Cleanup Day in Del Norte County, when you can join family, friends, neighbors and co-workers in cleaning up the beaches and coastal areas. Lunch and snacks will be provided, but an RSVP is required. Email Dan Burgess at dburgess@dnrhs.org, or call 707-954-3569, for the meeting location, to be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 21. Trash bags, pickers and trash cans will be provided. Participants should wear long pants and closed-toe shoe, and bring gloves and water. #placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');Organizers say California Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer event in the U.S., and that International Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer event on the planet. Inspired by “Grace Helping Hands” volunteers from Grace Lutheran Church at last year’s Coastal Cleanup, the Smith River Alliance will be awarding Vita Cucina gift certificates to the two groups with the most-enthusiastic trash-removal teams. Those considering organizing a team and would like some coaching can call 904-591-0901. A new component for the 2019 Coastal Cleanup will be students. On Sept. 20, a student beach cleanup is being organized by Crescent Elk Middle School and Joe Hamilton Elementary School. Contributors to the 2019 Del Norte Coastal Cleanup include the Whale Tail License Plate Grant Program, Smith River Alliance, Hambro/WSG, Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority, Rural Human Services, Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation, Take a Bite Out of Blight, the Trash Dogs and Organic Essence. Sponsors include Chimney Kraft, City of Crescent City, Crescent Ace Hardware, Elk Valley Rancheria, Tolowa Dunes Stewards, Home Depot, Los Bagels, Kokatat, Rumiano Cheese, Tidewater Contractors and Wildberries Market Place.
