Funny thing about our kids. After we pass a certain point in our lives, they decide they need to start taking care of us. Sometimes, that translates to them moving us great distances.I hate seeing friends do that, but when all your close friends have either moved to that “celestial” address or away, it’s good to have those adult kids to care about you.I remember, as a kid, how terribly old my grandmother seemed at age 50. Now, I look at my youngest child at age 50, and she doesn’t seem old at all.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');I don’t really feel so old, until I look in the mirror ... to behold Nain (pronounced “nine” – the welsh word for grandma), who raised my sister Mary and me.But whatever directions things go, the one unchanging factor, the stabilizing one through all those changes, is our faith. Faith is a great sustainer in private – but when practiced with others, it can be so much more.The group effort for joint activities begun by New Life Community and the Nazarene churches will have another event, on Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at New Life, and will now be joined by a third church, Pelican Bay Evangelical Free.Yes, the various denominations can have slight differences. But the most important basics are the same. And activities like these enable the various churches to get to know and understand each other better.At a time when faith seems to be something many would prefer to sweep out the back door, our churches need to be able to stick together and lean on each other when needed. If you belong to one of these three churches, why not make it a point to check this out?Meanwhile, the Smith River United Methodist Church will be presenting its annual sale Aug. 23 and 24, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. If you have something you would like to donate, call Marilyn at 707-954-1923.On the other hand, you never know what you are going to find at one of these sales. Something you have been trying to find might just be the item someone else bought, and wondering later why they did, then tucked it away out of sight – later deciding to contribute. It might just be the “treasure that you seek.”August 25 will be a very special day at the Nazarene church. “Kid’s Day” will be focused on those children in attendance. The music will be kids’ Christian songs, and the sermon based on the story of David and Goliath. Following the service, all will head to Florence Keller Park for a BBQ.This brings to mind something from my childhood. Like today, we had celebrations for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. But we also had Children’s Day – and as I have traversed time and distance, I have never seen it since those days in the ‘50s.To contact Martha Williams, call or text 707-460-3000, or email watchnwait@charter.net. I have been battling this issue and every time I think I have it resolved, it pops up again. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
