Robert Audubon Garrett, (Bob) died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on July 13th, 2019 at the age of 95. He was born in Hanover, New Mexico on June 6, 1924 to Dolores and Frank Garrett. Bob was educated at New Mexico State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Botany and a minor in Zoology. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany under the 424 Infantry Regiment and was honorably discharged in 1946. Bob began his career working for the State of New Mexico at Bitter Lake National Refuge in Roswell, New Mexico. While working there, he was instrumental in research with other Biologists to learn more about the endangered Whooping Crane which migrated there. This data was published and is in the Smithsonian Institution.In 1964, he moved his family to Crescent City and worked as a share holder at Standard Veneer Lumber Company for ten years. He owned and operated Crescent Radiator and Battery for ten years and after selling it, he went to work for the CA Department of Food and Agriculture, Smith River Border Station, and retired at the age of 80. Bob was a devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved to travel with his wife Margaret, and a few of their favorite places were the Fall Festival at Mount St. Helen, Oregon and the Cinco de Mayo Celebration in San Diego, CA. Bob enjoyed agate hunting, wood carving, bird watching and reading. His favorite times were spent with his family. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and they brought great joy. He carved a beautiful complete chess set for each of his children. Bob is the brother of Luis Garrett (Carmen). He was preceded in death by his late sisters Helen Zimmerman (Carl) and Francis Elizabeth Kelly (Hyman), and brother Dr. Frank Garrett (Ann).He was married to his beloved wife Margaret for 61 years. Together they raised four children ~ Bobbie Jo Bower (Mark); Shanna Morton, Rocky Moore (Sheila) and Jeanette Scott (David). Nine grandchildren ~ Gavin Scott (Heather); Garrett Scott (A’Lissa); Leah Scott (Ryan Bahten); Bailey Moore; Whitney Morton- Bellinger (Justin); Jenna Morton (Ryan Vitt); Kory Knott (Lila Evans); Kallie Bower (Zak’ry Conger); and Breann (Jonathon Ruth). Bob was blessed with ten great grandchildren ~ Wyatt, Layton, Timber and Mason Scott; Morgan Scott, Westin Bellinger, Macy and Henry Ruth; Addison Evans, Vail Vitt and Quill Bahten.He had numerous nieces and nephews and loved hearing about their life and accomplishments.Bob was a loving and committed husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was a good an honorable man. He will be truly missed by his loved ones and friends, but we rest assured that he is in the loving care of our dear Lord Jesus.Visitation will be at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Friday, July 19th from 9:00 am until noon with Mass of Christin Burial to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church on at 1:00 pm.
