Opinion and Commentary By Donna Westfall – October 1, 2025 Have you seen the major contributors for TV ads for Yes on Prop 50? California Teachers Association is a labor union and contributed $3 million.. I've known for years that California teachers are predominantly Democrats. I have a problem with that. A big problem because while I think it could lead to political bias, my biggest problem is that our public educational system SUCKS! Then there's $10 million by Fund for Policy Reform founded by George Soros. Then House Majority PAC (HMP): A Super PAC focused on electing Democrats to the U.S. House of Representatives, it has contributed about $10 million to the cause. Plus $2 million here and there from SEIU and California Nurses Association. Then there's all these: Michael Moritz: The chairman of Sequoia Capital has contributed $2.5 million. Reed Hastings: The co-founder of Netflix donated $2 million. Gwendolyn Sontheim: The Cargill heiress and philanthropist contributed $2 million. Eric Schmidt: The former Google CEO and his wife have contributed $1 million through a separate committee. Bill Bloomfield: The philanthropist and former mayoral candidate is a $1 million contributor. Another problem I have with Prop 50 is the title: "Election Rigging Response Act." The election is to be held on November 4th. This year, November 4th. It's cost to taxpayers $250 million for a special election. I have a problem with this. A big problem. $250 million could be better used for things like: * Homelessness (although the Democrats don't seem to know how to help it or fix it). * Infrastructure – have you noticed how awful our roads are? * Education – how to fix it so our kids are getting a really good education I believe this measure is falsely titled to deceive the public into thinking it retains California’s Independent Citizens’ Redistricting Commission, but it does exactly the opposite. It puts the power into the hands of Democrat politicians. it abolishes the independent commission voters approved in 2010 and gives map-drawing power back to politicians! Is it constitutional? I don't think so. If you listen to Gov. Gavin Newsom, he says that President Donald Trump is destroying democracy. I believe that is a lie. So many things Trump has accomplished have helped our nation remain a democracy. Safer borders. Safer cities. Reduced taxes which increased take home pay. No taxes on tips. Added jobs. Instrumental in achieving peace among several countries and has continued to work on a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas as well as Russia and Ukraine. Shutting down government spending for programs like US AID which turned out to be a spigot for wasting taxpayers money. That was dismantled in July of 2025. If you want to understand how Prop 50 is unconstitutional you can watch Attorney Mark Meuser's video. He explains exactly why Prop 50 is an unconstitutional power grab and why it must be defeated. Here’s the latest: https://youtu.be/YpE3VY5DdEY. Vote NO on Prop 50.
