Opinion and Commentary By Donna Westfall- October 10, 2025 In the history of civilization, and the history of the Jewish people, President of the United States, Donald J. Trump appears to have pulled off the deal of the centuries and yet he can't get the Democrats in our own country to stop the government shut down. Unbelievable! In my opinion, the man deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. We are living in historic times. Who would have thought that Hamas would lay down their arms? This still remains to be seen. Who would have thought that Hamas would return the hostages? Indeed 20 live hostages were returned to Israel this morning. Many reunited with their family. Two taken directly to the hospital. Trump gave a speech before the Israeli Knesset, then flew off to Egypt to continue the peace process. You know what else is unbelievable? Remember all those people; antisemites/anti Israel/anti Netanyahu that protested and paraded around shouting and demanding pro-Palestinian statehood and to stop the "genocide?' There were over 12,000 in the US alone. Where are they now? Why are they not out there in the streets shouting and applauding and celebrating the peace process brought together by our President? I believe it's because they are like parasites, leeches, vampires sucking the blood out of civilization and instead wanting the destruction of Israel rather than peace in the Middle East. Intifada signs and slogans, "from the River to the Sea" meaning rebellion and destruction of Israel were prominent in all the demonstrations. What about Greta Thunberg? Has she opened up her big mouth about the peace process? Nada. Zero. Zip. Unbelievable. Haven't heard or seen a word out of her in the last 5 days. Unbelievable! I'm sure she'll be onto the next conflict on her radar. Maybe another country or another climate change agenda. What about the United Nations? Although UN Secretary-General António Guterres and his representatives continually condemned the attacks by Hamas on October 7, 2023 the UN General Assembly failed to pass any resolution condemning Hamas, the first in October 2023. There was much talk about Israel's right to self defense. Recently, just in the last few days he welcomed the announcement of the peace agreement and commended the US, Qatar, Egypt and Turkey. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guerres One would have thought that the UN could have had more clout. But that didn't happen. Sometimes I wonder why we continue to pay million of dollars to support this UN. It reminds me of our local Del Norte County Grand Jury. They do their investigations and then nothing happens. Example corruption at the Harbor? As though it never happened. Unbelievable. Hundreds of thousands of Israeli's stood in Hostages Square listening to Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump talk just hours before the hostages were to be returned, chants of "Thank you Trump" rung out repeatedly. And in our own country, the Democrats still will not do what is necessary to stop the government shut-down. Unbelievable!
