The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Crescent City Times.com By Investigative Reporter, Linda Sutter – December 15, 2025 At approximately 6 p.m, Sunday December 14th, an event where city law enforcement pursued Read after discharging a weapon in an apartment setting. This was presumably a domestic violence issue. Read left the premises to allude police. A high speed chase ensued where Read headed up Rowdy creek road. Police found Read slumped over in his vehicle and it was discovered he had shot himself. Code number 1144 was the last code heard on Radio. Police found approximately 3 firearms in his vehicle. It is unknown at this time how many years Daniel Read had been employed with Pelican Bay State Prison.
