By Roger Gitlin – EYE ON DEL NORTE – April 15, 2022 Check your receipts, folks. The General Sales Tax in the City and County is 8.25%. This morning, I was in a retail store in the City. When the item I was purchasing came up with an 8.5% Sales Tax, I reminded the retailer the tax had been lowered to 8.25 as a result of the DN Fair Tax expiring. The retailer was unaware the tax was lowered April 1, 2022. If this happened to me, it can happen to you. I'm told the State Board of Equalization will eventually catch the overpayment and return the overage to the retailer. When and if the money finds its way back to you, is anyone's guess.
