By Roger Gitlin – EYE ON DEL NORTE – March 3, 2022 Bob Berkowitz passed away, Tuesday, March 2nd. The 5th District Del Norte County Supervisor succumbed to cancer. He was 81. He leaves behind his wife, Bonnie Berkowitz. I served with Supervisor Berkowitz for one term when he was elected in 2016. Bob successfully ran for re-election in 2020. As yet, no services have been announced. The question has been posed how will the County proceed with the Supervisor's replacement. Here is the process: Gov. Newsom is tasked with appointing the replacement who will serve until the November 2022 election and the winner of that election will serve the balance of Supervisor Berkowitz' term which expires December 31, 2024.
