By Linda Sutter – January 18, 2022 California Lawmakers are rethinking Prop 47 to increase penalty for repeat shop lifters. Originally voters voted in Prop 47 increasing the amount to $950.00 making it a misdemeanor. When that happened the misdemeanor wasn’t counted as a crime and wasn’t reported as such making California crime statistics low. Since the increase of theft over the holidays Lawmakers want to reduce the theft and shoplifting from $950.00 to $400.00 dollars and making it a felony. This will have to be approved by voters.
