August 1, 2026 Starting at 10 am at the corners of Washington Blvd and Northcrest, protestors will be standing with signs and camera. Why? Actually there's a nationwide call to # BLOCKFLOCK. Flock cameras are motion-activated automated license plate readers (ALPRs) made by Flock Safety that use artificial intelligence to log vehicle details like make, model, color, and plate numbers. They are used by police and neighborhoods to track car movements, but face heavy criticism for enabling mass surveillance. However, one facebook posting states this: "Flock surveillance camera installed at Washington and North Crest." Except: There are no official Flock Safety automated license plate reading cameras deployed or scheduled for use by law enforcement in Crescent City or Del Norte County. Local Law Enforcement Status Crescent City Police Department: Maintains a voluntary community security camera registry rather than an automated Flock camera surveillance network. Del Norte County: No active contracts or public deployments for Flock Safety camera systems are registered for local county law enforcement agencies.
