By Gun Owners of California – August 13, 2026 Last night, Gun Owners of America made history. Just after 12:01 a.m., following the lifting of the stay, Silencer Shop completed the first transfer of a suppressor without National Firearms Act (NFA) registration to Brandon Herrera—a moment that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago. This is yet another example of GOA's aggressive and effective legal strategy delivering real victories for the Second Amendment. While organizations like Giffords and Brady continue clutching their pearls over every loss, the courts are making one thing increasingly clear: history is on our side, the Constitution is on our side, and unconstitutional gun control laws cannot stand forever. So what does this mean for Californians? Unfortunately, not much—at least not yet. California still bans suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns, despite the fact that these firearms function no differently than countless other firearms already in common use. Ironically, many countries with far fewer firearm rights than the United States actually encourage or require suppressors because they reduce hearing damage and noise pollution. While this ruling doesn't immediately change California law, it does move the Overton window. Every constitutional victory builds stronger precedent, chips away at failed gun control arguments, and makes future wins in court more attainable. At the same time, California politicians continue their relentless crusade against your rights. Just this morning, SB 948, the permit-to-purchase scheme, and AB 2047, the 3D printer roster bill, both cleared the Appropriations Committee and are now headed to the Assembly and Senate floors for final votes before being sent to Governor Newsom. There is still time to stop these bills—but we need your help! Please call your Senator and Assemblymember and urge them to vote NO on SB 948 and AB 2047. Every phone call is counted, every phone call is tracked, and every phone call matters. It's one of the most effective ways GOA and GOC members can help us defend the Second Amendment here in California. You can find out who represents you in both the California Senate and Assembly HERE You can also send a pre-written letter to Senators and Assemblymembers HERE WE WILL NEVER STOP FIGHTING! JOIN US!!
