By Doug Dye – October 27, 2026 Update to article published Octobe 19, 2026 titled, What Is David Sedgwick Hiding?: On Wednesday, October 21 YouTube posted the CHP body cam of Crescent City city council candidate Mr. David Sedwick's arrest for D.U.I. In light of this very public embarrassment, I call on David Warren Sedwick to drop-out of the race for city council immediately. Watch and judge the body cam for yourselves, everyone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXA25kdD9bM "David Sedgwick should drop out of the city council race immediately! A public embarrassment…he cannot provide the CHP with proof of insurance, nor proof of registration, his phone is dead, his car is filled with trash, he admits to drinking IPA's for 6 hours, blows .113% on the breathalyzer @ 21:33, and can't explain what he does for a living. Is this the man Crescent City wants making decisions regarding the future of the town or being in charge of the town's safety and well-being? Mr. Sedgwick, DROP OUT NOW!" – comment posted to YouTube. I also speak from experience when I call for Mr. Sedgwick to drop out of the race. I've been a registered voter and participant in California elections since 1984, that's 42 years. I've also been involved in major political campaigns locally and nationally. Currently I'm of non-partisan or no-party registration and consider my politics to be "common sense." I have a pretty good idea of how a political candidate and campaign should operate and behave. That's why I find the tandem campaign of Steve Shamblin and David Warren Sedgwick for city council to be troubling and disturbing for this and 3 other specific reasons. Reason 1: I received their political flyer in the mail and have seen it published in the Triplicate twice. The first thing I noticed was their use of a knock-off reproduction of the official Crescent City logo as a watermark (same shape, same features inverted: crescent moon, trees, ocean waves, the use of stars to separate the name of the city & state). This is misleading and false advertising…it implies that both candidates have the official endorsement of the city government. Nor do they reveal as required who is paying for their political ads. I'll likely be taking these complaints to the F.P.P.C. And if these are their campaign promises they are nothing more than BS. For the past 7 months I've attended every city council meeting and have witnessed Mr. Shamblin consistently vote like a rubber stamp for the mandates and dictates of Sacramento, the city manager, the consultant class, and various other interests who are pushing high-density housing projects in the tsunami inundation zone. Even more glaring is that in those 7 months I've never once observed Mr. Sedgwick in attendance at a city council meeting. Reason 2: In 42 years I've never seen a candidate's name appear on a ballot without the simplest and most basic description of what that candidate's occupation is or was or their political party affiliation…this is known officially as a "designation." Mr. Sedgwick deliberately left this information unknown on the ballot. What does he do or did he do for a living? Does he own property or a business in Del Norte County? What is his political party? How is a voter to make the vaguest of informed choices about his candidacy, especially when he is a new candidate and completely unknown to many voters in the town? What is David Sedgwick hiding? Reason 3: Well one of the things he was hiding…Mr. Sedgwick was arrested and charged with D.U.I. on September 7, 2026 during an active political campaign. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXA25kdD9bM So – to summarize – David Sedgwick is a political neophyte recently arrested for D.U.I., who deliberately won't identify who he is on the ballot, who employs false and misleading advertising to represent himself in a new town where he is unknown to many and has never held elected office. That makes the tandem campaign of Shamblin & Sedgwick not only troubling and disturbing but also amateurish and sloppy! As a common sense, non-partisan I wouldn't vote for either of them and I'm thankful there is at least one solid option on the current ballot for city council…a seasoned political veteran the town knows well and who served on the County Board of Supervisors for 8 years. That candidate is Roger Gitlin. We need an independent thinker like Roger on the council, not two rubber stamps voting in tandem for the pro-growth, pro-crime agenda of Sacramento. And I've seen Roger at the city council meetings regularly in the past seven months…if elected he'd be ready and up-to-speed on-day-one without effort. In conclusion…in light of this very public embarrassment and release of the D.U.I. body cam, I call on David Sedwick to drop-out of the race for city council immediately! Is this the man Crescent City wants making decisions regarding the future or being in charge of the town's safety and overall well-being? Not me…and I am a common sense, non-partisan.
