"NGOS should focus on bringing good to the humans they serve, not exterminating them.” Washington, D.C. (Mar. 26, 2019) – Today, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced an expansion to the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits U.S. aid from going to foreign groups that promote or perform abortions. Today’s announcement includes language to ensure: The U.S. State Department will refuse to work with any foreign NGO engaged in the abortion business. The U.S. State Department will also refuse to fund foreign NGOs that give money to other foreign NGOs engaged in the international abortion industry. Statement from Live Action Founder and President, Lila Rose: “We applaud today’s announcement. This is a human rights win for the preborn child deserving of legal and societal protections. Secretary Pompeo has strengthened the Mexico City Policy to prevent U.S. taxpayer dollars from being used in any way to fund abortion overseas. NGOS should focus on bringing good to the humans they serve, not exterminating them.” “This expansion closes a gaping loophole that allowed nongovernmental organizations that receive foreign aid to subgrant with other groups that perform or promote abortions. As Secretary Pompeo stated this morning, ‘we can continue to meet our critical global health goals, including providing health care for women, while refusing to subsidize the killing of unborn babies.’ “Now we must close our own domestic loophole. Every day, $1.5 million taxpayer dollars are poured into the United State's largest abortion chain, Planned Parenthood. The government must stop forcing Americans to fund the abortion industry domestically.”
