By Donna Westfall – September 5, 2025 Last Friday four bad anti -2nd Amendment bills advanced out of the Appropriations Committee (where state money is allocated) and are now headed for final floor votes. These include: * the so-called “Glock ban” (AB 1127), * the 3-in-30-days purchase limit (AB 1078), * the ban on home machining and digital files (AB 1263), and * background checks for barrels (SB 704). But, there's something brewing where we may actually witness Democrats in favor of 2nd Amendment rights and that's having to do with allowing guns for transgenders. Why? What happened? If you've been following the news about the shooting by a 23-year-old transgender person allegedly carried out on Aug. 27, a shooting that killed two children and injured 17 others during a Mass at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis; and then discussions by the Feds about banning gun ownership for trans people, then you know where I'm headed. The Feds are discussing whether or not to classify trans people as having a mental illness. Something I didn't know that has been falsely circulated is that about 40% of shootings have been by transgender people. Let's look at the real data: "A 2023 report from the U.S. Secret Service National Threat Association Center found that out of 180 perpetrators in 173 mass public attacks from 2016 to 2020, 96% were men, 3% were women, and only 2% were transgender." The problem becomes, in my opinion, how does one determine if a potential gun buyer has a mental illness? Meanwhile, while this discussion heats up you better believe we'll be seeing Democrats standing up for the rights of trans gender people to own guns. And that is a milestone. Lastly, if you want to have a voice in protesting any of the 4 anti-2nd Amendment rights cited above, go to Gun Owners of California's website. They have a link to a pre-written letter which will go straight to your representative.
