Submitted by Hank Northrip – March 7, 2017 – SBC_CCBA Open Bowling Tournament 2017 This year's "Open Tourney 's Singles Event" winner was not earned until the last ball was bowled. On the last squad of the tourney, at 7:30 pm, the scores were just about done and we had a all but given the title to Donna Knauss for her very impressive 673 score which was 6 pins more than Loy Hutchens 667. When the final score was delivered to the score-keeper, on the last ball that was rolled, Mac McGarr had bowled a strike that gave him a series of 676 to win the Singles Event! The other events were less dramatic to get a winner. Here are the winner's and all who placed in the tournament; Team Event First place – Newton's Gold Team 2422 Second place – Newton' Clean Sweep Blue Team 1177 The Doubles title was claimed by First place-Cory Messal and Steve Bigham with a 1239 score. Second place – Nyke and Jeff Newton's with 1236 Third place – Linda and Jerry Newton with 1197. And that brings us to Singles Event Winner First place- Mac McGarr with 676 Second place – Donna Knauss with 673 Third place – Loy Hutchens with 667 Forth place- Linda Newton-639, Fifth place- Pat Douglas-638, and Sixth place- Nyke Newton-632. All-Events, which is the combined scores of all three events added together Winners are: First place -Nyke Newton – total of 1968 Second place- Linda Newton with 1889 Third place – Chasen Newton with 1854 An interesting fact is that Linda Newton is the grandmother of both Nyke and Chasen Newton, and Jeff Newton's mother. This year's "Open Tourney" could have been called the Newton's Open.
