The Del Norte County District Attorney filed a felony complaint June 1, 2016 charging James McKenzie Coddington (30) of Crescent City with three felony counts, five special allegations and a misdemeanor in connection with his operation of a stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle and pursuit by law enforcement just before noon on May 30th. Coddington has been charged with felonies of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Unlawful Driving or Taking of a Vehicle and Possession of Narcotics in Jail. He has also been charged with Special Allegations of three prior prison commitments and two “strike” offenses for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Discharge of a Firearm from a Vehicle. He was also charged with a misdemeanor for Resisting a Peace Officer. Coddington was arraigned this afternoon and his bail was set at $150,000. Under current law, he faces 13 years, 8 months and would be required to serve 80% of his sentence in state prison if convicted. If Governor Brown’s new crime initiative becomes law, Coddington could be out in less than two years of actual time if convicted of all charges.
