By Donna Westfall – September 3, 2025 Ever since Prop 13 came into existence, our mostly Democrat politicians and liberal judges have been trying to do an end run. 65% of the voters approved Prop 13 back in 1978. Prior to that, property taxes were high and going higher. Voters said, "NO!" "NO MORE!" Well, they're at it again. Come November 2026, there will be a ballot measure coming out of Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association (HJTA), "SAVE PROP 13 ballot measure." "The crisis is a series of court decisions that have made it easier to raise taxes of all kinds, even 'sales taxes on real estate,' known as transfer taxes. These changes are hacking away at Proposition 13, and we must act." HJTA is the California group that watches out for homeowners as it relates to taxes. Meaning trying to keep a tight grip on saving us from ever increasing taxes. Now in the past I've collected hundreds and hundreds of signatures. But those days have passed. It's time for everyone to step up to the plate and help. It only takes a few signatures from each person to get this on the ballot. And the petition has just been approved. Just think about this. Our city and country got voter approval to raise the sales tax. Part of that money was to do road repair. How many of you think that the money is being well spent? How many roads have been improved in the city and county? Not many in my opinion. But more people have been hired by the government. I think their priorities are wrong. Go to this website for more information and to download the petition (or have HJTA mail you copies): https://www.hjta.org/saveprop13
